Raw honey

The first thing to say is that not all honey is good for you. If you need to have something sweet in your diet then we only recommend raw honey i.e. one that has not be subject to pasteurisation, as this process neutralises the beneficial ingredients. Honey works as an anti-inflammatory by inhibiting the effects of COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes and reducing the amount of prostaglandins, which occur at the site of tissue damage. Studies suggest that it has similar abilities to relieve pain and inflammation at NSAIDs and corticosteroids but without the side-effects.
Honey is easy to add into your anti-inflammatory diet. It should be your first choice alternative to sugar whether for cooking, baking, sweetening tea or accompanying your breakfast cereals.
